TRAVEL WITH CHARDELLE: Grand Bahama Island Edition!

Written by

Grand Bahama Island: It’s finally here! My blog post about my amazing trip to Grand Bahama Island! As you guys may already know, I was invited by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism for a week long press trip exploring the very best the island has to offer!

Located just 55 miles from Southwest Florida, Grand Bahama Island is a traveler’s dream! The Caribbean gem is home to stunning beaches, ecological wonders, beautiful resorts, yummy cuisine and fabulous hotspots! There are three distinct destinations on Grand Bahama Island—East End, Freeport/Lucaya and West End—each offering their own unique vibes and energy! After visiting the island, I must say that Grand Bahama is now one of my favorite places to travel! Here is why:

Quick Flights: For my Baltimore and DC folks, the good news is Grand Bahama Island is only a short plane ride away! Two and half hours to be exact! We were booked on a direct flight from BWI to Freeport on Sunwing Airlines, Canada's leading low cost airline. Take advantage of Vacation Express all-inclusive 4- day package for as low as $500. This specials expires October 27th. However, there will be more great deals starting next year for example, weekly 4-night departures between June 30 and October 28!

Friendly People: I’ve been to numerous places but Grand Bahamians are some of the friendliest people I have ever met! Everyone is super cool and laid back!

Beautiful Beaches: It's no doubt that Grand Bahama Island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world! You’ll find crystal clear beaches at every corner! You guys already know how I feel about beaches so you know your girl was in heaven! Gold Rock Beach, Taino Beach and Paradise Cove are some of my favorite beaches around the island.

Dolphin Swim Experience: Swimming with dolphins at UNEXSO was one of my favorite activities! Real talk, it was one of the most amazing and memorable experiences I've ever had! There is something special about seeing these guys up close and personal!

Eco Adventures: For all my nature lovers, there are plenty of eco adventures you can get into in Grand Bahama! From snorkeling, hiking, biking, bird watching, horseback riding and paddling! If you want to get out and explore the island then check out the Jeep Safari Tour! Included in the excursion are stops at Taino Beach, Lucayan National Park, Garden of the Groves and so much more! The best perk, you get to drive your own Jeep Car!

Delicious Food: Ready for some amazing food? Come to Grand Bahama! The island is famous for its conch, Gully Wash cocktail and a variety of local dishes! Whether you’re in the mood for fine dining or stopping by a local street vendor, expect nothing but mouthwatering cuisine! Unlike many Caribbean islands, food is super affordable! We had the pleasure of dinning at a variety of restaurants. I highly recommend Sabor Restaurant, Shebo’s Conch Stand, Pier 1 Restaurant, Churchill's, Dive-In Bar & Grill, Bojangle’s Seafood Haven and Garden of the Groves! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Amazing Beer: I fell in love with the local Bahamas beer called Sands. Can I say yummy! The Sands Pink Radler is my favorite! The premium lager is mixed with all natural grapefruit! We also toured Sands Brewery. It was awesome learning about the company’s history, brew process and of course sampling!

Fish Fry at Smith’s Point: I love interacting with the locals and getting the real feel of the culture. We had a blast chilling at the local Fish Fry at Smith’s Point. Held on the beach every Wednesday night right next to Taino Beach Park, several restaurants engage in a typical native cookout! Food, live music, dominos and a whole lot of fun!

Junkanoo Village & Museum: No trip is complete for me without visiting a cool museum! Stop by Junkanoo Village & Museum and learn about the festival’s history and rich African culture! Our tour guide was super informative and entertaining! I took a leap of faith and entered the dance contest! I’m proud to announce that I won! LOL!

Fantastic Hotels and Resorts: We stayed at the gorgeous Pelican Bay Hotel, a tropical oasis set against colorful Bahamian architecture and walking distance from numerous restaurants, shops and live entertainment! The hotel is home to Saboor restaurant, three awesome pools and features 7 ½ acres of white sand beach just across the street! WIFI was available and the staff was super friendly! If you’re looking for luxury, Grand Lucayan Hotel and Old Bahama Bay are also great options! Traveling on a budget? No worries! Grand Bahamas offers tons of budget-friendly hotels such as the Flamingo Bay Hotel & Marina, Bell Channel Inn and Castaways Resort & Suites to name a few!

Overall, my trip was nothing short of amazing! I can’t wait to plan my next trip to Grand Bahama! Special thanks to our amazing tour guide Brooke Grant and the entire team at Bahamas Ministry of Tourism! For more information on Grand Bahama, head over to www.bahamas.com

Saint John, Antigua: A few weeks ago, I headed to the beautiful island of Antigua to host the 55th Annual Miss Jaycees International Queen! The live televised event was held at the grand Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Miss Jaycees International Queen Show is one of the most prestigious pageants in the Caribbean. The show has been an integral part of Antigua’s Carnival almost from its inception. The pageant aims to elevate minds by elevating lives. Celebrating the national queens of the region and providing contestants a platform to represent their country on an international level. Contestants are judged on their talent, gown, public speaking, physical fitness and poise.

I had the pleasure of co- hosting alongside Norrell K. Josephh from Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority! We instantly clicked! Bringing our vibrant personalities and energetic hosting skills to the forefront.

This year's theme was Cancer Awareness. I must say all the delegates did a great job bringing awareness to Cancer and representing their country with style and grace!

The evening also featured performances by Soca star CLuadette Peters and several local artists.

Tasia Floissac, from Dominica took home the crown! She also captured best interview, best performing talent, best swimwear and most photogenic! Way to represent the #767!

1st runner up Antigua Barbuda - Leanda Ann Norville.

2nd runner up Nevis Akeisha Fergus.

Best Modelling Skills Evening Wear - Antigua barbuda - Leanda Ann Norville.

True to theme(Cancer Awareness) Nevis - Akeisha Fergus.

Miss Congeniality - St Kitts - Orngel Erskine.

I’d like to send a huge thanks to the entire Miss Jaycee team! Everyone was super friendly and made me feel at home! Thanks Michele Blanchard Design Gallery for the beautiful gown! You're an amazing designer. I love your work!

My trip to Antigua was nothing short of amazing! This was my first time in Antigua but won't be my last! If you're interested in learning more about Miss Jaycees International Queen, head over to www.jayceesqueens.org. Check out more pictures on my facebook page at Chardelle Moore!

Crofton, Maryland: I was recently honored by Brown Girl Wellness & Step Toward Awareness as its Woman of the Year recipient! The prestigious award ceremony was held at the gorgeous Crofton Country Club.

I'm humbled to be recognized for both my career and community work! I recently read this quote that was really powerful. "There’s a natural tendency for people to look at success stories, whether they’re people or businesses, and think that it happened overnight. " Wrong!!!! It takes YEARS of dedication, sacrifices, poor days, tears, I can go on! My journey has been far from easy! Whatever your goals are, go for it! If you don't quit, it's amazing what can happen!!! Thanks again Brown Girl Wellness & Step Toward Awareness for this amazing honor!
